Bio:
One of Hades angels, Charon had a very rough past where he was caught up in a feud between his stepfather and landlord. This feud ended with his stepfather setting the apartment on fire, and leaving Charon behind expecting him to get out on his own. Being only a small child, Charon hid instead and therefore was badly burned by the fire and abandoned. Hades found him in the ash and took care of him, offering him to save his life if he decided to become one of his angels. Part of the deal with Hades was that Charon would never feel pain from hatred any longer as he had suffered from it enough. Once agreeing to be one of the angels, Charon's fur changed to his current design. He now works as the Ferryman for the underworld, carting souls and individuals across the River Styx to avoid burning in it's water of hate. Songs: I'm Still Here The Things we Lost in the Fire |

Their unique skill:
Charon rubbed the side of his boat down with a rag,
Cerebus sound asleep behind him as there had been no
visitors yet today. A dark figure appeared at the entrance
and all three heads of the massive dog lifted and puffed a
cloud of hot air at them. The figure laughed a bit and
reached a paw out to the dog, rubbing each snout individually
before turning to the boatman.
"Charon, how are you?" The figure bowed his head in respect
and Charon got on one knee briefly before standing back up.
"Good my lord. Ready to return to the palace?" Charon
motioned to the boat and the viscet nodded before climbing in.
Charon pushed the boat off the shore, briefly stepping into the
water which at the moment was glowing with a purple like hue.
Charon stepping into the water made the passenger shudder for a
moment and Charon swung himself into the boat to continue
pushing it down the river. He couldn't help but grin at the
expression of the viscet's face.
"You know the water does not affect me Hades, yet you grimace
every time." Charon laughed a bit and Hades shook his head.
"I have touched that water and it felt like hundred of fires being
lit on my body. How you do not feel that is beyond me."
Charon shrugged, "Perhaps it is because of the reason I am here
Hades?"
Hades considered it, it made sense that Charon could not feel the
burning water of hate because he had already been burned by actual
flames set from hatred. Hades could see Charon's eyes reflecting the
flames of his past and reached a paw to rest on his shoulder.
"I gave you this position not because of your past but because I saw
you had kindness and a will to continue in your soul. You are an
amazing angel Charon." Charon's eyes cleared and he looked at the
dark viscet who was smiling down at him.
"Thank you Hades, I do enjoy my role here. It is amazing to see all the
visitors coming and going from the underworld." Charon paused a
moment, "And to see your face when I touch the water of course."
Charon bent down, dipping his paw into the water and watched as
the discomfort spread through Hades body. Hades looked at him
with a glare but the viscet's grey eyes held no malice towards the
boatman.
Charon straightened up and pushed the boat further through the
underworld towards the massive castle ahead.

The flames had died off by the time Hades had shown up to view the aftermath. He looked around the ruined building, noticing where the fire had been set and how it had quickly spread to the rest of the wooden structure. He sighed as he moved through the ash when he noticed a small figure laying within the wreckage. He hurried over and frowned at the sight of a badly burned viscling, probably only a few years old. He gazed around, looking for anyone who may be looking for this little one but he saw none. He turned back to the viscling, laying in the ash all alone and was shocked to see the child still breathing. Hades brushed a hand over their ears and pulled the child onto his lap. This viscling's heart was pure, unlike the monster who had set the flames. Hades bent his head down to the child's and whispered, "Just ask and I can spare you. Become one of my angels and never know this pain again." The viscling looked up at him and nodded very weakly, "Please..." Hades watched as the child healed from his wounds and his pelt become the color of the flames themselves. A pattern emerged and the child's eyes regained their glow in the color of oranges. Hades helped them stand and then held a hand out to them. "Come, lets go home." Hades walked with the newly reborn child, away from the place that he had suffered. (Words: 249/300) Art Extra: |

Stories
The Fire
Charon sat on the edge of his boat, his tail dipped in the water which was glowing a faint blue at this moment. He watched the souls swirl around each other, their faces twisted up in screams of hate. He dipped his paw into the water when he thought he saw a familiar face. It ducked away at his reach and he shook his head. It was impossible, what were the odds of seeing him here.
Charon closed his eyes and could see the flames dancing through his mind. He leaned back into the boat and let himself drift back to that day. He had been sitting with his mother on the floor of their apartment when the roar of flames could be heard. His mother stepped out into the hallway to see what was happening and was grabbed by his dad, well not his dad but stepdad, and told to get out. Mom ran out the door and dad forgot about him. Either that or they just expected him to get out on his own. He stood and walked to the door to follow them but the crowd of people from the other rooms scared the small viscling and the noise just got louder. The viscling went back into the room and crawled under the bed, scared of what was happening. That's when there was an explosion that through pieces of the wall onto the bed, lighting it in flames. The viscling could feel the heat of the fire and the pain, but the worst pain was being left behind.
The vision blurred to a few hours after the fire, Charon could hear viscets walking among the rubble and saw briefly out of a gap in the ruins of the bed, his stepfather pulling his mother away. He was just close enough to hear, "If the boy wasn't smart enough to get out on his own than that's not our problem."
Charon wanted to cry out for his mother but his lungs were full of ash. He lay there for hours, watching each of the viscets searching, slowly turn back one by one and leave. He was alone in the ash and ruins of the building that had once been his home. It wasn't until almost night, when a new visitor arrived and found him. Hades.
Charon opened his eyes, looking up at the cave ceiling and remembered how kind and merciful Hades had been to him. He also remembered the face of the viscet who had set the flames. His own stepfather had set the fire because of his hatred for the landlord of the apartment. Charon had just gotten caught in the crossfire.
He shook his fur a bit as if shaking the ash from it and sat back up, once again looking into the waters of the River Styx, the only river that didn't effect him. The river of Hatred.

A Job on the Surface
Charon sat on the bank of the river and watched the water curiously. He could stare at the water for hours and found himself often times mesmerized by the souls swirling within the river. He only lifted his gaze when he saw Hades approaching.
“My lord.” Charon stood and dipped his head in respect. Hades smiled at him and stretched a bit as Cerebus created a bridge across the river with his paw. Hades crossed carefully and approached Charon.
“Hello Charon, I have a job for you if you are willing to take it.” Hades said calmly.
“A job for me? Doesn’t usually Hermes or you take the jobs?” Charon asked curiously and Hades nodded.
“Yes but I figured you may enjoy a chance to work on your skills.” Hades suggested and Charon nodded.
“That is always good. So what is the job, sir?” Charon asked, leaning against the boat for a moment.
“Just a rogue demon causing a bit of raucous that you need to fetch.” Hades spoke as he handed the formal report to Charon. Charon read it over and then nodded to Hades.
“Got it, I am on it.” Charon called the shadows forward and under his normal cloak, his armor formed and his oar shifted to be a spear. He bowed his head to Hades before pulling on his helmet and cloak hood and leaving through the cave.
It didn’t take long for him to find the demon. Charon only had to follow the sounds of trees being torn from the ground to find it. Charon watched the demon a moment and then launched himself from the shadows to land directly on its back, thrusting down with the spear. The demon bucked him off just as hit paws touched its back and he twisted in the air to face it once he landed. He reached to his back and pulled out a glass orb with a liquid inside it. He spun it in his paw as he watched the demon brace its legs to charge Charon. Charon let it charge and then tossed the orb at the demon, easily sliding to the side to avoid its attack. The glass orb shattered on the demon’s fur and it shrieked in anger and pain as it was soaked with water from the River Styx. The ground hissed and steamed as the water dripped off the monster and it was blinded for a moment as the water burned its eyes.
Charon jumped once more, landing on the Demon’s shoulder and could feel its muscles tensing to get ready to launch him off again. Charon used his spear to steady himself and found the chain that was wrapped around the demon’s neck. He looped the spear through it and yanked, pulling the demon’s head back. It thrashed around but Charon kept his grip on the chain, pulling the part that was dragging on the ground up so it wrapped around the demon’s muzzle. Once secured, Charon yanked on it and the demon backed up at the command. Charon had made the chains into reigns like on a horse and now had control over the demon. He stood between the demon’s shoulder blades and guided it back towards the cave. He directed the demon through the caves until he reached the entrance, where Hades stood watching in surprise.
He nodded in approval and smiled at Charon as he jumped off the demon’s back, “Very well done. I can bring this demon back to Tartarus for you if you like.”
Charon gazed at the demon and shook his head, feeling a connection with the beast, “If you do not mind, my lord, I would like to care for it a moment.”
Hades looked at Charon and then nodded his approval before leaving. Cerebus eyed the demon with a glare and puffed up his lip to bare his teeth. Charon looked at the demon which was a black shadow of a shape, typical of demons who are out of control and do not wish to show their true form. Charon figured it may be the manticore or a dog demon of sorts and pulled it towards the area where he slept. The demon snarled, looking at the river with wary.
Charon chuckled softly, “Come, I will not push you in. I have shown you great sympathy, have I not?”
Charon looked at the beast who turned its eyes on him. The demon followed, still hesitant but Charon was glad that it seemed to trust him enough to do that. He hooked the chain to a thick rock pedestal and looked at the demon, “The rock is enchanted to not break, so it is pointless to try and escape from here. Just lay down and I will be back.”
Charon vanished around the corner and the demon gazed around the area, noticing a place for a fire pit and a sleeping area nearby. The furnishing of the cavern was simple as Charon hardly needed much more than the essentials. The demon noticed a shelf and stood on its back legs, bracing its front paws on the wall, in order to see it clearer. On the shelf was a tattered image of Charon, or who the demon thought was Charon, and two older viscets who may have been his parents. Next to the image was a charred piece of wood and on the other side of that was a picture of Hades, Charon and Hermes all standing together with Hades in the center. Charon seemed young in the picture and the demon thought it must have been when he had just started working here. All three were grinning and the demon rethought on the stories that the trio of the underworld were all very close friends, closer than any of the other angels here. The demon sat once more and noticed Charon watching from the entry to the next room.
“Curious aren’t you?” Charon tossed a piece of meat to the demon who looked at it confused.
“Why are you so nice to me? Most other angels would have slain me on the spot, but you decided to bring me back in one piece. Why?” The demon spat and Charon shrugged.
“Something told me to spare you. Now eat,” Charon motioned to the meat and the demon laid down, scarfing down the meat quickly. “Wanna show me what you really are now?”
“A few measly gifts aren’t going to gain my respect for you, Ferryman.” The demon growled and its shadowy form grew darker.
Charon shrugged and flopped onto the bed, “Very well.”
The demon watched him fall asleep. How dare he ignore a demon of my rank! the demon growled and bared his teeth at the Angel who didn’t even move, “Oh get up you fool! Don’t you realize I could rip your throat out from here!”
Charon shrugged again and leaned onto his elbow, looking at the demon, “Then why announce it? Why not just kill me and get it over with?”
The demon glared at him, “If I kill you, I would never get the chain off this pedestal!”
Charon nodded and thought about it, “True.” He stood and approached the pedestal, slipping the chain off the rock and turned to go back to the bed.
“You released me? After all the work you put into catching me?” The demon looked at the chain as it fell to the ground, feeling the slight tug where it was wrapped around his neck.
“Cerebus won’t allow you to go back to the mortal realm so you are still stuck in the underworld. If you cause too much trouble there, Hades will surely toss you back into Tartarus. I’m not worried.” Charon laid back down and then demon approached him slowly.
“Ferryman, you are surely a fool.” The demon spoke and Charon looked up at him.
“Eh, I am still a kid,” Charon chuckled a bit, “There is a slight difference between the two.”
The demon looked down at the angel and gave a great huff, “If you wish to see my form then very well.”
The demon allowed the shadows to disperse from its figure and Charon grinned a bit, “Well, what do you know. A sphinx.”
The creature glared at Charon and clicked its beak slightly, “Not just a Sphinx mind you. I am a Hieracosphinx! With the body of a lion and head of a hawk. Fool.”
Charon smiled and sat up to examine the demon closer, “Pardon my mistake. Now Mr. Hieracosphinx, what shall I call you?”
“Call me?” The hieracosphinx looked at the angel with confusion, “No one has ever given me a name. I was just a creature of the gods.”
“Well that won’t do. Everyone needs a name. Hmm. How about Haroeris?” Charon asked and the sphinx looked at him, “He was one of the oldest gods in Egypt, was he not?”
The sphinx considered it a moment and then nodded, “Very well. You may call me Haroeris.”
Charon smiled.

Haroeris
Haroeris is a hieracosphinx that Charon was tasked with capturing as one of his first missions. Rather than slay the beast, Charon instead cared for it, sensing it was more than the ordinary rogue demon. After a while of getting to know Charon, Haroeris revealed his true form and decided to remain close, becoming Charon's companion. When Charon ventures to the surface, Haroeris takes on the form of either a hawk or a large house cat to keep people from staring at him.
